Full closure of Old Street due to void under the road – buses from Tesco & Aldi (updated)

There is an emergency closure in place for Old Street after Severn Trent Water discovered a void under the road while investigating a leak.

The 435, 738 and 745 depart from Tesco. The buses will call at Upper Galdeford. The 701, 722, 702, 703, 740, 738 bus services will depart from Aldi. No Minsterley buses from the Compasses on Corve Street. I have asked for signage but I don’t know when it will arrive. The Upper Galdeford bus stops will be in use as normal, including for Kidderminster. The 490 to Leominster will continue to depart from Ludlow Assembly Rooms.

The last couple of days we have had a stop go closure that has worked well. However, a large void has been discovered and it is essential for safety to have a full road closure. It is not known how long this will last. Footpaths are not affected.

This is causing traffic chaos. But we can’t have a situation where the road is collapsing under vehicles.

Severn Trent have confirmed they will be working over the weekend to reduce the impact on bus services and trade next week.

This will put pressure on Temeside as it takes traffic exiting the town centre. Cadent has agreed to delay its closure of Temeside from 13 October to 20 October.
