Ludlow Town Councillors appointed three councillors to join them on the council on 16 June. One co-opted councillor has since proved to not have been eligible to stand. After legal advice, the council has decided it must rerun its selection process. There will be no opportunity to stand. The rerun will involve councillors choosing between four of the five councillors that originally stood.

The Annual Town Meeting will be held on Zoom at 7pm on Monday 28 June 2021. This is an opportunity for residents to raise concerns and ask questions about the work of the council and issues that matter to our town. The deadline for questions is today. Details below.

I thought that we had appointed three good councillors to Ludlow Town Council last week. But, after legal advice, one proved not have to have qualified. That leads to an awkward position. The co-option will be rerun on Tuesday 29th June at 7pm in the Methodist Church. There will be no opportunity for new candidates to apply.

This has become a miserable process that it is not the fault of the council. There were only five candidates for co-option.

I would prefer a restart on the entire process. That’s not going to happen. But this event reinforces my objections to co-option which seeks to fill places on vacancy not on merit.

The day before the co-option meeting, it’s the Annual Town Meeting. This has often been a lively affair as it is an opportunity for people air their viewpoints and grievances. This year, it will be a Zoom meeting. Questions must be submitted in advance and the deadline is today 25 June. Email your question to townclerk@ludlow.gov.uk.

There will be two presentations at the meeting:

  • Ludlow Food Network: how to combat food insecurity in Ludlow – a presentation from Ruth Davies, Ludlow Food Bank and Hannah James, Ludlow Food Festival.
  • Ludlow Youth Organisations – a presentation from Tracey Huffer, Ludlow Youth Partnership and Erica Garner, Hands Together Ludlow.

All residents are welcome to attend via Zoom.
