We still have empty shops like every town. But several are to reopen with new tenants in the next few weeks and months.
Golden Moments has been much missed after it was forced to close following a maverick planning decision and a dispute over the lease. Shortly, it is to reopen in the former post office, which was more recently Bistro 7. This is brilliant venue and I am sure its going to be better than ever. This is better location than the former Specsavers, which was being considered but is smaller and lacks extraction equipment. We look forward to seeing Raj Uddin and family again.
The Chang Thia has closed after 20 years. It was one of Ludlow’s most eclectic places to eat out or to crowd into a bar on a Friday or Saturday. But Ludlow will not miss out on Thai food. Jùp Jùp will open in the former Bakers Café on Tower Street in mid-August.
There is something of a mystery about what’s happening at the former Costa Coffee on King Street. The contractors working there recently said it was to be Lounges, a west coast American style diner with cocktails.
That would be a welcome addition to the mix of eating formats in the town. However, the agents for the property are not confirming this and it is also the possible the property is under new ownership.
Ludlow Market remains absolutely fabulous. Don’t miss the Tuesday Makers Markets throughout August. Local to Ludlow Market on 8 and 22 August.
If you are coming into town, why not use the park and ride? Just £1 return from August 4th until the end of March. We are anticipating improvements to town services too. More on this when agreed with Shropshire Council.
Footfall in Ludlow this year is a bit down on last year, -3.2% but that is only to be expected give the wet, cool start to the year. Interpreting the data we have on footfall is not straightforward and I’d caution against giving too much significance to small changes. I’ll publish a detailed analysis after the summer and thereafter provide regular updates.
Please, no more bars, cafes etc. We have more than enough. Why not more proper shops. We have lost so many forcing us to buy on line or go elsewhere. Can’t you not agree permission to any more places to eat or drink and for that matter charity shops? which I have repeatedly heard are too expensive.
Thank you for your continued insight about all things Ludlow, is it possible to let us know what’s happening about the deteriorating cleaning of the streets around the market square and approaching streets, my wife and I have just arrived home following a walk around town with our grandson who asked us on a few occasions today ‘what’s this’ unfortunately each of the 3 times he was talking about where someone had been sick on the path! It would be a great shame and another reason to avoid the town if these become the norm as it has appears to be over the last few weeks.
