Fortunately, the weekends festivities in Ludlow weren’t a total washout. However, Ludlow Castle is closed today.
With a lot of rain following a late leaf fall, some drains and gullies are blocked and unable to take the volume of rain. At the moment (10.30am) we have a respite so it’s a good time to walk the dog or have a Sunday morning stroll. But are you struggling through puddles or floods? Are you being sprayed by water from vehicles going past?
If there is still surface water after the heavy rain has eased, there is a problem with drainage. Some drains are blocked with leaves and other detritus. In other places road surfaces have the wrong gradient and hold back the water. Sometimes field drains and gullies are blocked.
Now is a good time to report these blockages. The best way to report any problems to do with the road or publicly owned footpaths is through https://www.fixmystreet.com/. Even councillors use this method to report highways matters, unless they are urgent or complex. In these cases, we raise them with council officers, not all of whom welcome direct contact.
If the footpath you are reporting is off a road, pinpoint it on the nearest road and explain the location. If you can, grab a photo on your phone.
I can’t promise action on all the problems we identify. Shropshire Council is struggling at the brink of bankruptcy partly caused by the complex ways it gets work done. But if we don’t identify things on our streets that need fixing, then we will never fix our streets.
