Ludlow has had a long standing understanding that political material is not fly posted in conservation areas. Unfortunately, Ludlow Residents Group hasn’t respected this. At least two candidates have fly posted. On Lower Broad Street there are flyers by Sebatian Bowen and Robert Owen.

Now, following complaints from across the county, Shropshire Council’s legals had laid down the law. No one can fly post on lampposts or other council street furniture without the permission of the council. Posters and banners on private property (windows, gardens) must be removed by 15 May. Fly posting should be removed. After all, why would anyone vote for a candidate that does not respect the rules and our town’s heritage.

This is the memo that was sent to candidates.

“REMINDER

“I would like to remind all candidates and agents that election material must not be “fly posted” on the highway, on street furniture or any public property.  Please ensure you remove any election material already displayed if it is on highway, on street furniture or any public property.

“If it is to be displayed on private property, the permission of the owner must be sought in advance. Any such advertisements, posters, etc. relating specifically to a pending election must be removed within 14 days following the close of the poll.”
