Just after midnight this morning, an HGV careered out of control for at least 800 metres down the hill on Sheet Road, damaging vehicles, safety barriers and homes on the way. The HGV was fortunately not loaded. That meant when the HGV, from the Llanelli based Owens Group, came to a stop embedded in the Ludlow Youth and Community Hub at youth centre the damage was not as bad as it might have been. No one was injured.

That said, the damage to the Youth Centre is substantial and it is likely to be out of use for months.

Cars were also damaged at Kennet Bank

It’s a long haul after this. Shropshire Council officers and Ludlow Area Community Partnership have been working flat out all day to secure alternative venues for all the services which are provided at the youth centre.

This is devasting. A hard working team of volunteers and professionals have transformed the youth centre from a building that was not well used into a thriving community hub. This has taken a lot of work and the hub was just getting into it’s stride.

Ludlow and Area Community Partnership (LACP) is a charity that has been set up to support the development of the Community and Family Hub, based at the Youth Centre building in Lower Galdeford. The Hub is used as a drop-in centre for communities living in Ludlow and the surrounding areas. The Hub will provide a wide range of support, delivered by health providers, early help, mental health, peer support groups, the voluntary sector and much more. It was open from 9:00am to 4:00pm Monday to Friday.

  1. This is a bummer. However in the last couple of years or so there has been a huge upsurge in lorries crashing, a chief characteristic being the lack of skid marks, as if the drivers have just blacked out.
The reason for this has been well discussed. You may prefer to do your own research here.
I have certainly noticed more aggressive and careless driving as well as more car crashes, and so am always a heck of a lot more careful when out on the roads.
