This is a live story that will be updated as information comes in.
R&B travel have just confirmed that the 292 service will be running from Ludlow to Kidderminster. It will be diverted via Knowbury and Caynham. Rocks Green will not be served. The 292 service will call at Henley Road on the way out of Ludlow and can call there by request on the way in. There might be delays but the drivers will do their best to keep to timetable.
There was major pipe burst by the Rocks Green roundabout earlier this week. This is not the first. The pipework is clapped out after decades of neglect by Severn Trent Water. The company has never bothered one jot about how much disruption it causes for its works. It is now going to close the A4117 for three peak business days for its own convenience from 8am this morning. How will the 292 bus get to Kidderminster? How will those that live on Rocks Green get to the doctors if the 722 can’t pick them up and drop them off?
This closure was announced at 4pm yesterday. Us councillors filed a complaint as soon as we saw that the work had been agreed by Shropshire Council. The head of highways responded at 11pm last night. He didn’t know the details. We wouldn’t expect him to. He will find out more. We are in the dark until we hear from him.
This work should never have been agreed. It is classified as an emergency. It is not. The pipe burst was an emergency. That is over. The road and pavement must be reinstated. This work should be done overnight and on Sundays. There is no need for a full road closure for three days. There is no need to block bus routes and isolate communities.
I will update this blog as we get more information.
