Today, Sainsbury’s has given an update on the plans for the construction of the supermarket underway at Rocks Green. This confirms that the store, with an Argus drop in for hardware and toys, is expected to open before Christmas.
The scheme will create around 150 jobs, many part-time and some replacing jobs lost in the town centre supermarkets which are expected to lose up to a quarter of their footfall.

Sainsbury’s supermarket – Rocks Green, Ludlow
We’re writing to you regarding the new Sainsbury’s supermarket which is currently being delivered by Davis Street Properties Ltd at Rocks Green, Ludlow.
As you may be aware, construction of the new supermarket is underway and we understand that the steel frame will start to go up this month. You will begin to see the new store taking shape as the steel frame is erected and once the steel frame is complete, they will then install the walls and glazing for the new building.
We are expecting the building to be handed over to us by Davis Street Properties Ltd in Autumn this year and, once we have taken control of the building, it will take approximately three months to fit-out the store. We cannot wait to welcome the local community into our new Sainsbury’s supermarket and are hoping to open our doors to local people by Christmas this year. We will let you know the exact opening date as soon as we are able to.
Our new 17,000sqft supermarket has been specifically designed to best meet local needs and will provide a fantastic range of Sainsbury’s own-brand and branded food ranges, alongside our popular clothing and general merchandise offer. An Argos store will also be provided inside the supermarket, which will bring great choice, value and convenience to our customers who will benefit from thousands of technology, home and toy products available for immediate purchase and collection.
Our new supermarket will create around 150 new jobs across a range of roles and levels, and we will keep local people updated as the recruitment process moves forward later in the gear. The Sainsbury’s team in Ludlow will play an active role in the community by supporting food donation, volunteering and charity programmes in the local area, as well as our nationwide community programmes and charity partners.
