Covid-19 cases are rising in Shropshire with 75 confirmed cases in the unitary council area last week. The rapid rise in cases follows the regional trend but cases remain lower than elsewhere. It would be good to keep it that way and that is why the council has launched a new media campaign, Step Up Shropshire.

Speaking to BBC Radio Shropshire this morning, Shropshire’s Director of Health Rachel Robinson said the increase is across the county and all settings. She admitted that people have become exhausted with the restrictions but said that as we approach winter we must pull together. This is particularly important for Shropshire where 55% of population are vulnerable. She said half of cases were linked to social contacts.

The Shropshire Council press release emphasises all the things that are now a habit for most of us. Wash hands or use hand sanitiser, cover faces if in enclosed spaces and stay at least one-metre apart from people not in your own household. The council is also asking people to:

  • Work from home if they can
  • Limit contact with other people.
  • Keep a distance from people not in their household bubble (2 metres where possible).
  • Stick to a maximum group of 6 people when meeting socially – indoors or outdoors
  • Not to leave home if they or anyone in their household has symptoms.
  • Wear a face covering in indoor settings where social distancing may be difficult, and where people who do not normally meet are gathering.
  • Those that have any symptoms should book a test and not leave home for at least 10 days.
  • Those living in households should self-isolate for 14 days where any members of the household receive a positive test.

Shropshire Council’s COVID-19 Helpline is  0345 678 9028 (lines open on the weekend on Saturday from 9am-4pm and Sunday 9am-12pm). More  information on the council website.
