Campaigning, of course, has been going on for some while. But just after midnight last night parliament was prorogued and with that we are into the general election campaign proper. I’m backing my excellent fellow councillor Charlotte Barnes who is standing for the Lib Dems in the Ludlow constituency.

You can find out more about Charlotte on her blog.

We’ll know the full list of candidates on 9 April. So far, Janet Helen Philips has declared for the Greens, Simon Slater for Labour and, of course, Philip Dunne for the Conservatives.

I believe UKIP has a candidate but there is no information on their website or on the leaflet they pushed through my door.

I hear Big Al from the Nelson will be standing for the Monster Raving Loony Party. I can think of no one better to stand up in the quirky British tradition established by the late Screaming Lord Sutch.

I’ll not be covering the general election in detail on this blog. But I will highlight any issues that affect Ludlow in particular.
